Walk the Line

Last evening Diane and I watched the Johnny Cash biopic "Walk the Line" on DVD. The music was the sound of my childhood. It was astonishing to see Elvis, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Cash and June Carter traveling around the country from gig to gig in an old jalopy. What came across was the strong Baptist guilt that enveloped all that they did. You can take the child out of the church, but you can never get the church out of the child.

Yet, well is it said that God has no grandchildren. Strict, god-fearing parents to not instil belief in their children. They instil fear and guilt, but that never saved anyone. Each person has to come to his own crossroads. Johnny Cash followed the path trod by many a youngster - sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. In the process he made some great music. Did he find true faith or middle class respectability?

I really think you are amazing. I look forward to your blog daily. My little brother has CLL at 39. I respect you. But I love Jonny Cash. I feel walk the line was a poorly made movie and did not touch the Johnny Cash I grew up with or saw numerous times. Just for me Whatever faith someone may have is not up for us to question. Just for the record my class is a step above middle if we are pointing at money or rank. I am American.
I still think you are super smart, very interesting and a very nice man. But can't touch The Man in Black!

Sorry, I'm letting my English idiom show here. Middle class is a term that has nothing to do with class now. It just stands for the average respectability that most people adhere to. In the UK almost everybody is middle class except the very few landed gentry and the remaining 8000 coal miners who are proud to be called working class.

Dear Dr. H.
Thanks for clearing up the middle class for your country, now I understand better as to what you were
saying. So I really hope Johnny C. found the faith true to him. After I saw that stupid movie, I thought they left room for a sequel. If that is true they can cut on him
more and make more money for their greedy hands!
Now.. I found a website named "Blood", is there a site where you have posted your findings of info. for CLL?My brother was dx in Jan'06.For months I have been seeking all I can find.I adore David A.blog and CLL Topics.Could you recommend any?(the kind a non doctor can understand!) Thank so much for your time.I love England and I am sorry your country
is having problems caused by our not so smart president. It is all such a pity!
Sincerely, C.C.

I thought for sure Johnny Cash professed Christ as his Lord. I think I had seen a couple of interviews where he had talked about his relationship with God.
