Foodless in Gaza

Whatever your feelings about the war in Gaza, there is one group who are wholly innocent of any wrongdoing there. I refer to the 3000 Christians who live there. It costs $70 a week to provide food for a Christian family marooned there and caught up in a bitter war between Islamist and Jew.

Barnabas Fund has been assisting Christians in both the West Bank and Gaza since 2001 with food and basic needs. Please donate to Project 65-377 to enable them to continue helping.

You can donate here . Please quote project reference 65-377

I am Jewish and blatantly pro Israel, but I think that all of the innocents in Gaza deserve as much help as is possible.

Giving to the Barnabus Fund is appropriate, but unlikely to be "enough".

Isn't it a shame that the UN has allowed the greatgrandchildren of the original "refugees" to remain in refugee camps where energy is wasted fomenting hatred instead of working toward betterment of their overall condition.

The Egyptians don't want to incorporate Gaza under their control for multiple political reasons and the Europeans as well as most of the rest of the western world just don't get it!

I pray for peace and true justice and despair that even one innocent life has been lost, but I am terribly pessimistic that a resolution will be seen in our lifetime.

Number one, I don't want this blog to degenerate into a political flamewar as the first anonymous poster seems to desire.

First of all, who can say whether this person is telling the truth or not.

My opinion is that Israel, like any other country, has the right to defend itself from terrorists like those in Gaza and the West Bank.

The cynical nature of these terrorists who deliberately put rocket factories and launch sites in schools and hospitals is disgusting. I have no sympathy for them.

No, what is a shame is how Israel displaced these people from their homes in 1945. What is also a shame is Israel's use of phosphorus bombs. How dare you blame the UN?! You're prayers for peace will go unheeded with this type of belief you have. Go to prayer sir or madame with a clean and pure mind. Shame on you!

Dr. Hamblin, as a fellow christian who cannot over emphasize the importance of the New Testament, I choose to help all Gazan's be they christian, muslim, atheist, pagan, jewish, etc.,etc. Remember Jesus said, "why have you foresaken me?"

This is poster #! again.

Israel did not displace these people from their homes. History clearly shows that Arab armies from Egypt, syria and Jordan tried to dismantle and destroy the nascent state of Israel (in 1948, by the way, not 1945) and encouraged residents within the defined borders to leave with the empty promise that they would be permitted to return to their homes soon after the jews were displaced "into the sea".

As you know this never happened and the refugees became political pawns.

Jordan dipelled the PLO from it's borders many years ago and the Israeli's (foolishly perhaps0 didn't finish him off later. They negotiated a reasonable solution with Arafat and the PLO in 2000 which Arafat reneged on and the mess continues.

We've given Vietnamese boat people new homes and new lives and done this for refugees time and time again.

Israel had to resettle approximately 350,000 jews displaced from Arab countries in the late 1940's and 1950's (check on how large the jewish population of Baghdad was in the past). The UN has helped resettle refugees everywhere except in the middle east where they are used as political pawns by a number of groups, including (more recently0 radical islamists who wish to destroy the West!

The whole thing is quite a mess and there is plenty of blame to go around, but only those who choose to ignore the obvious could fail to see that no matter how badly israel may bungle things, they are a Western democracy which strives to behave like one.

can't we all just decide to "get along"...wouldn't that be better than blowing up innocent civilians in buses and restaurants, teaching hate to young children and using innocent civilians as human shields?

Dr. Hamblin,

You are an intelligent man, surely you do not believe the carnage in Gaza can be summed up in this way:

"The cynical nature of these terrorists who deliberately put rocket factories and launch sites in schools and hospitals is disgusting. I have no sympathy for them."

They are not seeking your sympathy nor are they seeking your approval - they are seeking your Christian spirit and you must find it because Christianity commands inquiry and complete acceptanceof the fact that there is only ONE JUDGE. Carnage is unacceptable in ANY circumstance!

The anonymous comments on this topic remain (just) within the spirit of free comment, but don't represent my own opinions. The problem in Gaza is an immensely complicated one. Strong opinions on either side demonstrate how difficult it is to make a judgement. I suspect Jesus would say that both sides are in the wrong. Sin is a constant for every man and jesus taught us to pray "Forgive us our trespasses as we for give those who trespass against us." There is not much forgiveness on either side.

I have no sympathy for the cynical Palestinians. Zero. I'm tired of the games these terrorists play, using their own citizens as pawns.

We must remember that Hamas was voted in by the Gaza residents, who by the way have one of the highest birthrates in the world. The terrorists in Gaza are the responsibility of the entire population of the country. If they didn't agree with the desire to 'wipe Israel off the map', they'd change government.

They don't want peace. The want to finish what Hitler started.

I shames me that the US continues to give money to terror organizations such as Hamas. We need to end this blood money which simply is funneled into buying weapons to attack innocent civilians in Israel.
