John 7:53-8:3a

Then each went to his own home, but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery.

Despite it not being in the original documents, this passage is the most vivid of all those in which the Pharisees sought to trick Jesus. The first question to ask is where is the man? It takes two to tango, as they say. Perhaps it lies in the fact that a woman's evidence did not weigh as heavily as a man's. Under the influence of the Christian faith, we have come a long way in protecting women's rights.
