The worldwide "Occupy" movement has its representation in London on the steps of St Paul's Cathedral. The Guardian sent a reporter out to interview them to see what they want. The truth is that they don't know what they want except something different. They are a self-important, self-indulgent, over-privileged groups of spoiled children. A jogger passing by shouted, "Get a job." at them and that is probably an impossibility; who would employ them? But there are probably a large number of refugee camps in Africa who would be glad to have their free labor.
Dr. Hamblin,
ReplyDeleteDoug Schoen, a U.S. democratic pollster, in a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, after having polled a number of "Occupiers" profiled the group as "it comprises an unrepresentative segment of the electorate that believes in radical redistribution of wealth, civil disobedience and, in some instances, violence. Half (52%) have participated in a political movement before, virtually all (98%) say they would support civil disobedience to achieve their goals, and nearly one-third (31%) would support violence to advance their agenda."
Generally they feel entitled to free health care, college education (they don't want to repay loans they undertook)& a secure retirement. They want others to pay for this. It's like those who claim that they're losing their homes, when, in fact, the homes aren't their's - many have put no money down nor have they put in "sweat equity" - just give me, give me. Possibly these are those where everyone got a trophy as children.
We will purge these "collective salvation" - "social justice" manipulators soon from national poltical offices, but our societies will always have these oddballs.
Incidentally, have you noticed that many have top tech toys, like iPhones, iPads, et cetera?
