Galatians 5:22. ...peace...

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace...

In the twentieth century there was hardly a year when there was peace on earth and the twenty-first century has been no better. But the peace that the Spirit brings is not about the absence of warfare. Indeed the Bible promises us that we will be involved with Spiritual warfare until Lord returns. But we have changed sides. Italy and Japan changed sides between the first and second world wars and we have changed sides since we were converted. We were formerly aides to Satan; now we have peace with God and enmity with the devil. Peace with the creator of the universe and its rightful ruler; that is more comfortable than being on the side of the would-be usurper.

Being at peace with God (purchased by the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ) gives us rest and comfort in our souls. So whatever the outside circumstances we have an inner peace.
