Silence

I have been relatively silent for the past week. Partly it I because I have been suffering and partly it is because I have been working. The work part has been rewriting the article that Professor Dighiero and I have been doing for the Lancet Oncology. It has ended up about 50% longer than it started in order to put in all teh detail that the referees wanted.

The suffering has been to do with my teeth. I thought I was going for a filling, but it turned out to be an extraction. The dentist dug away for an hour but left two roots behind that he couldn't remove. As a result I had to have emergency oral surgery at the weekend to have the roots removed. the whole thing has left me with a painful, swollen face.

Consequently, I have had to cancel my trip to Florence to attend the International MDS meeting this week.

Sounds quite unpleasant. I'm waiting for the tissue engineering folks to create new teeth from adult stem cells. It's farther along than you'd think, though many years away.

Faster, please.

These big and little irritations of life in the post-60-new-normal (a la David Arenson) can be a pain in the butt!

OUCH... You really are suffering these days. First an unknown bug catches you in Canada, now teeth.. HHHMM When I had some minor health problem I retired to Switzerland. Old age DOES catch up with us all at some time.. Of course learning I also had CLL ( w & w ) also made me slow down and RETIRE... Hope you are soon well and look forwards to the blog on lymph nodes.. :-) :-)

The worst I have had to go through is an abscess that made me HAPPY to have a root canal! I can only imagine what you must be feeling. My prayers are for a speedy recovery.

Would it make you feel a little better to know that my dentist was pulling one of my teeth and the whole LONG time that he was pulling with all his might with his trusty pliers, he kept saying, "I'm sorry, I didn't think this would be so hard to extract this tooth. Oh, I'm so sorry, surely I will get it out in a minute.....Are you Ok? I am so sorry."
The stuff that nightmares are made of.
