What they have done is taken a bacterial cell and replaced the bacterial DNA with DNA cosing for certain instructions to require the cell to make certain products. This is a development of what has been going one for at least a decade. Fuss about nothing! It is not about creating life, but taking an existing cell and engineering it to make whatever the designer has in mind.
